- the x-files -

okay so. war of the coprophages right. i think this is one of my favourite episodes now definitely one of my favourites recently theres a lot of the like.... gritty crime ones in s2 & 3 which isnt really my thing but this felt more like an s1 episode? and the first thing i thought was damn the title sounds like a classic who serial and it does! its referencing science fiction as genre & the scientist with the voice aid, & the way dr. bambi said to mulder 'idk if you know anything about ufos' and the references to planet of the apes and the general like. silly nature of the ep. what if there were killer cockroaches. combined with the profoundness of being scared of bugs, thinking of them as primitive, how might aliens view us etc. and also it was just well written for them as characters!! i really liked how they let scully be right about the first three deaths! like yes girl your logical & rational conclusions can be correct!!!!! i especially liked that after she spent all of the last ep with mudler disbeliving her like yes!!! get him with your superior knowledge of everything!!!!
i really liked how mulder wakes up in the middle of the night & the first thing he does is call scully & she fell asleep holding the phone waiting for him to call. & woke up instantly to pick up. & the way that TWICE !! mulder was oh yeah well i guess youre right thanks scully :). i liked when she was in the shop being like 'dont be so ridiculous youre all fine' & when they all panicked & ran out she just casually walked over the tipped over shelf & ate a chocolate thing <3 nonchalant queen i love her so much <33 & they way she & mulder joke with each is so nice i do think its funny & sweet when mulder jokes about scully being attractive after she does something logical & rational. shes going on about how evolution is pure chance & the possibility of intelligent enough life on other planets is slim and he jokes that he finds that attractive & like im sure he does lol. & asking dr. bambi to tell him about bugs even though he tells scully he hates bugs i guess he just likes to hear women explain things to him <33 which is so real of him honestly. mulder guy ever. i just liked how silly & goofy they were in this ep like :) yay i love them :)

i love my wife dana scully & i think she should get to throttle mulder at least twice a season
like? the moment she think she;s seeing the power of god mulder starts scoffing AS IF HE DIDNT. IN THE LAST EPISODE. risk his life multiple times based on an assumption that there were aliens despite all the actual evidence & still refused to believe scully when she explained that it was tests on humans WHICH SHE HERSELF HAD BEEN SUBJECTED TO. I MIGHT ADD. i am so so glad she called him out on that because lke ohhhh my godddd so what if her unexplained events are stemming from religion? same as in the episode with the supposedly psychic guy who claimed to be able to speak to scully's dead father and the way she says! 'i thought you'd be happy i opened my mind to extreme possiblities' 'you get to believe it every time you see lights in the sky' 'youve made some pretty extreme guesses' liek augsuasuahsuasuahsuahuuauahhNHGNGHGNHNGNNNN & its not lost of me how even though scully is objectivly the more rational of the two the ones where she believes it to be paranormal are the like. emotional intuitive ones. which probably says nothing about how women are viwed as being more emotional ahahha.
like mulder cannotttttttt be taking a 'youre being ridiculous' high ground over scully for this one like cmon man youre being a prick. AND SO MANY OF THE LINES IN THE EP (revelations) could have been swapped between them & the episode would still have made perfect sense like scully was literally hitting all of the points mulder covers & saved the kid's life & when she said 'but your 'more logical' explanation doenst line up' he didnt have anything to say to that! because the kid had stigmata and teh other guy was an incorruptable body or whatever!! and she was obviously freaked out by it as you would be!! & scully is a begrudgingly lapsed catholic!! and mulder practically worships the idea of the goverment hiding aliens !! & thinks that once he;s found them he'll have all the answers to all of his problem!!! like scully is literally intelligent & rational & has self preservation & is reacting as anyone would in these scenarios Especially given her background (abduction & religious upbringing & multiple near-death events a year & medical doctor) and every time the show treats it as if she's being obtuse for not automatically jumping to aliens or whatever mulder's monster of the week is because as we have established in teh first episode mulder is a weird guy dead set of believing in aliens!! free my girl scully she behaved exactly as the male protagonist would!!!!!!!!!on a different note though guardian angel or noyt she was particularly beautiful in this episode i love herrrrr scullyyyyyyyyyyy....... SCULLY <3

^^ my new favourite picture look at herrrrrrrrr giggling & kicking my feet <33333333

scully often has her hair parted to the side & often if she gets a head injury it will be on the side with the part so you can see it better. i started noticing this but like its always on her left of her face she starts bleeding from. like quite consistently. i personally am not complaining she bleeds very beautifully but girl please stop getting hit on the head
speaking of that actually kind of mulder's death/dream sequence at the start of s3 was so so funny to me im sorry. like the navajo people would have been well within their rights to just fucking let him die like if i was albert. im gonna be so real maybe i would not have been so sympathetic to the overall cause but good for him. especially after he took one look at the code tolk and decided it was gibberish like woah buddy calm down it LOOKS like a native american language. are u stupid. but his dream sequence was so funny like. unflattering angle of david duchovny covered in leaves zooming in against the stars background like. okay buddy. aside from that i wonder how much of that story duchovny wrote like. did he just have an idea? was he like oh yeah lets POISON MULDER lol

im going to be so real here i think mulder would start getting bicurious in the labyrinth. hmm actually i dont think it would take much for mulder to get bicurious. like i hc him & scully as bi to varying degrees but i think mulder would be far more likely to shoot his shot with another guy in some terrible badly timed situation. scully would have a long as drawn out situationship with a beautiful girl she keeps going on ambiguous hangout/dates with (no i dont know what adults call hanging out you get the point) and she'd agonise over it for so long. mulder would just start kissing dudes

that vampire episode halfway through scully's abduction was somethinhg else for real like. mulder thinks she's either dead or going through imcomprehesibly awful experiements & is going around wearing her necklace (as you do when you have a normal relationship to your coworker) and theyre just like okay whatever. vampires. are a thing that exist. MULDERS AT THE GOTH CLUB IN HIS SUIT & TIE AND HAVING VAMPIRE SEX WITH THIS WOMAN AND LIKE. I AM ALL FOR VAMPIRE SEX BUT IS THIS REALLY THE TIME?? he had vampire sex while wearing scullys necklace as well. btw. like okayyyyyy buddyyyyyy. the whole episode i was like this is kind of awesome but where is my best friend dana scully i was so so worried about her i wont lie.

imagine scully sitting down in 2006 to watch doctor who and seeing the tenth doctor & being like oh my god. this guy is just like mulder. and then watching him go through the torment nexus for three seasons & specials

whyare so many people making scully an uwu angy sassy smol bean hashtag girlboss like people will look at any character who happens to be physically small & vaugely assertive and assign some combination of these traits like ?? scully is a complex character & like everyone else is the show in entrenched in The Nineteen Ninties which did not have 'uwu smol bean' as a character archetype and to be so real fandom made that up anyways and i may add that fandom culture as it exists now is largley in part to x files fans online. though i dread to think what some of those people thought about scully to be so real.
like 1) gillian anderson actress from real life can't help being a head shorter than her costar. 2) scully is written to be a complex character & while her continuing skepticism seems to make people irritated if You were constantly being put in situations where making the wrong assumption could cost lives you wouldnt be so willing to chalk up the latest string of horrific murders to aliens either, Despite what you think you may have almost seen. plus if scully didnt disagree with mulder there would be no character conflict in the show & thats boring. what people may ascribe to being 'sassy' or 'girlboss' in her character is a very real way women try to not let themselves be intimidated in predominantly male spaces & which people writing scully's character would have been aware of since (as far as i can see) more & more women were in jobs like this in the 90s so it became like. A Thing. like when she says 'ambition? she's a woman in a boys club, i know how she feels'
3) fandom is not known for having the best media comprehension, ironically, but its weird that so many people want to be like 'hehe scully is so cute & little (which like. she is but thats tends to be where people stop) she's so sick of mulder haha look at her silly shoulderpads she's so done with this she thinks its ridculous hehe she's so little' when things like her size & her gender are Used Against her by other characters - not in the other fbi agents in what ive watched so far but like - she's been kidnapped i think.... three times? in what ive seen. the guy obsessed with hair, her ex the other agent possed by the guy, & the abduction. & mulder did get abducted that once but he was returned like immediately & it was Never Mentioned Again* & he was kidnapped in the erlenmeyer flask BUt the difference is that mulder is threatened with just straight murder, scully is threatened with violence yes but it has a much more like......... insidious undertone. if you get what i mean. theyre using that she's a woman to make her feel threatened. and some people seem to then infantilise her? for some of these same traits.
which is. idk a bit weird. am i thinking about this too hard
*which is so weird like????? mulder the alien guy?? spooky mulder??? gets abducted & doesnt bring it up again???????? was there some sort of memory loss with that did they mention something like that in that episode??????????

in the episodes i literally just finished rn, some shapeshifting aliens who Claim to have mulder's sister samantha (who was abducted by aliens when they were younger and was the catalyst for mulder being like. the premise of the show) show up, one of them pretending to be her. as a viewer you sort of know that is Isnt Her b/c one that changes the paradigm too much & b) its like halfway through a season & they wouldnt do anything that drastic halfway through a season it had to be a fakeout. also. i have a dvd of the first bit of s7 & one of the episode descriptions says he's still looking for evidence about his sister so you know they keep dragging that out longer lol. but the interesting bit is that it's well established that the reason mulder is into this stuff, with the whole paranormal investigations, is that he's hoping he will one day find samantha - for him its gone beyond the point of just wanting to find her, like he wouldnt know what to do with himself if she really did come back - he was awkward enough around shapeshifter samantha as it was, like after 22 years what do you even say. I Think. in my super educated opinion lol that deep deep down he doesnt even really want to find her anymore because that would almost. end the whole point of this. like they could have their stilted family reunion & then what? mulder goes back to work knowing that he wasnt a nutter after all but? only to witness more incredibly dangerous strings of murders?
from a show point of view it would be the sort of '& they all lived happily ever after' ending that generally massively throws off the vibes of a show. like idk what happens with samantha further but i dont think they ever Really bring her back. in all likely hood she Died in 1970whatever & mulder Knows That. but he kknows also that everybody else thinks that. he has a bit of a monolouge where he says that witnessing his sisters abduction & him Believing in his heart that it was aliens....... like he knows that that ostracises him from people. he values that belief above all else, & the cost of relationship, his reputation, several times almost his life. but like what would he even do if he found her i doubt he knows. idk its not the most unique character trait to have, wanting something for so long you dont know what to do when you finally get it, but its compelling none the less & its the first time i personally have seen it where the thing desired is a person. especially not in a romantic context. yeagh
aaaaaaaaddding onto this we dont even see mulders family, except for the flashback to his sister getting abducted, until these episodes - like its been established that he doesnt really have a life outside his work, we know he does sports kinda casually but no sort of friends or anything, we only meet his ex cos she is Also a special agent & it was under an investigation thing - its like a yknow 'oh hang on we could do a cool episode with his family uhhhh time to introduce his parents i guess' - but with scully we Know she has connections with her family - she cares about what her dad thought, talks to her mom, her sister comes to visit her when she's hospitalised, earlier we see her at a friend's house helping out at the friend's little kids birthday party. mulder by contrast seems to more have willingly cut homself off from his family (based on the interactions with his dad, both pretty terse) even while searching for his sister. like for him, his family is a vauge concept from when he was much younger, and he's searching for a 'lets go back to how it always was' he can never get to, and in all likelihood probably doesnt even remember that well. like he was 12 when samantha was taken? like im not saying he has no warm feelings for his parents but he just seems to have moved away and not thought about them much since
im not saying thats like. an inherently tragic thing either. he probably gets some good melodrama & moodiness out of it as he should. but i dont think he's upset about not being close with his parents. he's not constantly looking back to a glowing beautiful childhood.he's just trying to to dwell on it too hard either. does this make sense lol

i think i could be in a lavender marriage with mulder. like he's not gay. but if he needed to be married for some reason

okay so obviously i am not the target audience for the david duchovny shirtless moments in the x files like. i dont care lol but the one thing that gets me is that mulder would not have abs. he sleeps on his couch with the tv on & spends all day lounging around his office reading files & flying across the country at the drop of a hat & staying up all night investigating shit like he is not getting the exercise or eating well enough to be buff.
like i understand why they cast conventionally attractive people in tv but its still funny to me. like there was no need for us to see mulder in the pool they just did that so they could but david duchovny in swim boxers on television. when will i see scully in her underw[COMICALLY LOUD EXPLOSION SOUND EFFECT]

the brainworms. theyre coming i am fucking obsessed with this show & i havent even finished season one like. holy shit. damn. theres a lot going on in there. like aside from the nightmare fuel Situations they end up in every week theres the. the. the unresolved tension one might say. like fucking hellllllllllllllllllllllllḻlllllllḻlll JUST KISS ALREADY !!!!! scully you gotta climb that white boy. okay sorry. but yeagh. yeagh. THERES JUST SO MUCH !!! IN THERE !!!!!! LIKE !!!!!!!!!!!!! theyre so obviously obsessed with other to the degree that scully whos like. a logical reasonable person as is her whole thing is willing to lie to the fbi where she works to protect mulder & the x files like gott damn people who were just assigned that as a work project & no more dont do that about their coworkers. like. fuck man. like mulder obviously needs her carnally but being the blueprint pathetic wet cat man is never gonna say that but scully has something far more psychosexual going on. in a way they are like twelveclara i think. in which mulder is the doctor albiet more like ten & scully is clara in that she is pretending to have a normal life when she would obviously be far far happier hunting down aliens & freaky shit with her mutually obsessed coworker forever & neither of them want to say anything about it but YOu Know. yeagh. yeagg. something going on with those two. anyways look at the real vintage 90s gif collected by yours truly. particularly obsessed with the two single character ones like..... whoever made those should have been making video edits of with sparkles to chappel roan yknow

i swear to god i was watching x files & at the end of the last s1 ep mulder calls scully to say theyve been shut down at 11.22pm & i swear that was like. within a minute either directon pf 11.22pm real time for me. spooky
anyways im finished season one now (watched the last three eps last night)(17th november) & AUGHHHAGAHGAHHHHHHHUUAUAUAUUAUUAUUUUUUUUUUUUU THEM !! the last episode was great lots of good character moments hnnrrmrmrgrhgrhrghgrhgrhghhrhhhhmhmhhm IM SO HAPPY !! THAT SCULY GOT TO SEE AN ALIEN !! like how she got that thing out of the wherever she was is beyond me but GOOD FOR HERRRRRRRRRR like Of Course when mulder goes to show her the tanks theyre all gone b/c thats how thw show works - mulder Always has to be the sole witness b/c he's already convinced & no one will ever really believe his judgement even when he is right and scully never gets to see it b/c she has to remain skeptical & level headed they even !! someone i think one of the yknow, 'nutters who think the government is tracking them' guys say to mulder 'is this your skeptical sidekick' or someything.OBSESSEDDDDDDDDDDDD with when one of them calls scully hot & afterward she's like well theyre crazy & mulder goes what you think its unrealistic for someone to find you hot? LIKE. OKAY BUDDY. AND THEN !!!!!! when theyre in the car in tooms & shes calls him fox & he does that little laugh and yOU CAN TELL BY THE LOOK ON HIS FACE HE WAS SO CLOSE TO SAYING SOMETHING THERE. AND THEN. when she's brought him food & he's like haha if youve brought me lemonade it must be love LIKE INSANE THING TO SAY TO HER??????? RIGHT THEN????? & she's like haha no luck its ginger beer or whatever KNHAUISHAOIAUOAIuSOIauMMSHAMIO(AH)&(UOYI@#&(UYI@#()U@IO#OUIQMWOUUûüùúū SOMETHING GOING ON. WIT HTHEM. & then mulder fucking kills a guy with an esclator. okay

something about how the way very episodic shows work with each episode mostly being a whole story us that there is often very very little processing time for the characters. like they could be going through life shatteringly bad events every other week that would seriously mess them up and it will just be. never mentioned. doctor who has started dealing with the implications of that now especially with the rapidly increasing stakes, with fourteen, & with fifteen being like 'well thats just the way this is', but i was watching x files yesterday & like. theres some pretty messed up stuff in there. like in the span of like four episodes, scully's dad dies, she gets kind of manipulated by the psychic guy, she kills someone, she gets hyponotised & is very close to being sexually assaulted, gets kidnapped & sees another guy (who she was like. friends with) die in front of her too - and none of this is ever dealt with!! like damn girl take a day off. you have like 25 episodes a season go to the beach or something please.
& the other thing is with x files is like. well its not copaganda & they do have their 'government bad' moments but scully very much does shoot & kill a guy. & isnt shown to be remorseful or upset or anything about that. zero repercussions. and no one is bothered. like idk its just weird are we supposed to overlook that or are we supposed to think she was in the right for doing that or ?? & like mulder gives his hotel key to a homeless guy & i cant picture him doing police violence but he also very much does wave a gun around. and every other character think's he's overly emotional soft & a bit of a nutter. idk. i think a lot of scully's character is supposed to be Professional Detachment as well as her personality just not being on the touchy feely side but like. yay feminism the female character has gun too??
& its hasnt escaped me that a lotttttttt of these episodes could not be made today like. the gender bender one was. it was pretty close to saying something wacky its like 'uhhh beware of BISEXUAL TRANSGENDERS they KILL you with SEX' whichis. hmm. & the roland one like what if this high needs autistic guy was being POSESSED by his GENIUS DEAD BROTHER which is also. hmm. there were others as well. the episode with the native americans i think they just about managed to avert it becuase the werewolf virus or whatever could be passed to anyone & two of the main three in the ep were white guys so they werent making it a 'mystical native powers' thing but yeagh. do we think there were indigenous writers working on that episode.
& its weird because they are trying to show compassion mulder and scully are shown to really care about the victims of whatever nightmare scnerio it is this week, roland the autistic guy, the two eve girls, all that but like. idk it sure was the 90s in the 90s. aside from the episode plots quite hilariously checking every conspiracy theory / unexplained phenomena off the list its still rooted in the prejudices of the era. even if for the time it was nothing to note.

thinking about the episode where phoebe green who is mulder's old friend / ex girlfriend is there and it was so so funny to me b/c aside from her literally being like 'mulder youre so pathetic i want you scared & afraid & remember that time we had graveyard sex', mulder seemes like he's worried what scully will think, & phoebe is vaugley aware that scully might not like her fllirting with her coworker. like she does it anyways but she's not doing it To Make Scully Jealous she just wants mulder that badly lol
and scully is just unbothered!! like she mighty be a little bit jealous/annoyed about it on a personal level but doesnt realllyyyyy show it like when she has to tell him something & walks in on him making out with phoebe she's just like okay whatever we're literally on a case rn and fully runs over to interrupt them when she realises the building is on fire. i reckon she's probably like 'oh thank god he has kissed a girl before i was starting to wonder' while also probably, if you will excuse my use of gen z slang, be astounded that he has/had rizz
like scully & phoebe are both captivated by his pathetic demeanor & vaugley sad & guilty swag but while phoebe falls into the trope of like, super-hot-&-flirty-but-still-competent-ex-girlfriend scully is doing the whole Career Woman thing (very 90s of her which. is b/c its the 90s) but also we saw her on her one awkward date in the what is bigfoot was a woman episode & she didnt seem to be enjoying it!! like she would rather be vaugley attracted to mulder's sad tboy energy than even contemplate getting married
however. in the episode with the genetically modified girls at the end im sure mulder & scully were both painfully aware that they looked like a family. scully was probably trying to ignore it in a rational logical way but i'm sure mulder was imagining they were married withtwo kids & they were a normal family getting sodas yknow.
like the girl says to the woman at the counter 'my dad will pay for it' because she Knows what they look like but im sure if she had said that in front of mulder & scully, scully might have tried to contain her surprise, not say anything, but internally be kind of pleased and mulder would play into it 100%. & probably touch scully more. like he's quite touchy feely anyways but i dont think he wuld mind the excuse lol
kind related to what i was talking baout before but obviously A Lot of thought has been put into writing mulder & scully's dynamic & even more into analysing it but how they fit into character archetypes is so interesting to me like mulder is the kind of guy who, had his show been made ten years later would probably have gone into a tumblr sexyman adjacent category cos he's a sad white man with big brown eyes & vaugely bisexual energy but Scully seems so so rooted in the 90s & in 90s perceptions of women - like she is always perfectly put together & wears acceptably feminine suits & skirts even though she's like. one of very very few women agents we see not too much emphasis is placed on her being A Woman In A Man's World though scully herself would probably be Very aware of this. but they cant write her as vapid nor would they want to so she has to always be the most Logical & Rational person in the scenario, even when she has accepted it's aliens or whatver the problem of the week is she has to maintain professional skepticism. they Cant write her as a Stupid Woman or they'd have no show But they seem to keep her in a state of not being quiiiite accepting enough of whatever unexplained phenomena it is - which also makes it so that mulder is The Only One to witness the Thing, but of course no one would take his word for it cos everyone already knows he's convinced about aliens & lowkey thinks he's lost his marbles anyways.
If scully were to See The Aliens then there would be more chance she would break free from this character restriction bUt mulder always has to see them & scully always has to be skeptical even if only for professional reasons. it always has to be 'scully youre not gonna believe this'
